What this site is for

This is a patient decision guide, not a textbook. The anatomy of facial volume loss, the harvest and the operative technique are explained properly on the Facial Aesthetic Surgery hub and on Dr. Mao's own site. What this site adds is the part a patient works through alone: what fat survival actually means, why surgeons deliberately overfill, why a second session is normal, what the donor site costs in the first fortnight, and the cases in which the honest answer is to do something else.

Who writes it

The guides are written by the clinical content team of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital and medically reviewed by Tongchun Mao, MD, Deputy Director and Head of Aesthetic Surgery, whose facial practice includes fat grafting. Every page carries the reviewer's name and the date it was last reviewed.

The limitation we state first

No page on this site will tell you how much of your fat will survive, because no one knows. It varies between patients, between areas of the same face, and with the technique used to harvest, process and place the tissue. A practice that offers a percentage is offering a number that cannot be verified in your case, and that is worth weighing when you hear it.

What we deliberately do not publish

No prices, because the honest figure depends on the areas treated, whether another procedure is combined, the anaesthetic and the facility. No brand names for medicines or devices. No dosages. No before-and-after images presented as evidence, and no promise about volume, symmetry or how long a result will last.

The limits of a website

Nothing here can tell you whether you are a candidate or what your face will look like afterwards. That requires an examination: how much volume has been lost and where, how much fat is available to harvest, how your skin behaves, and what your expectations are. Use this site to arrive at a consultation with better questions.
